White Lake Talks

Whitehall and Montague

On facebook.com Emily Ackerberg said that she "wishes that Michigan was actually as nice as the 'pure Michigan' commercials make it look . . such a fake out"....

I want feedback on this, I am appalled by her statements....

In my view, she is a great example what holds Michigan and the country back... She has no pride in her state or its natural beauty, instead of thinking about how positively these commercials can be for Michigan, she decides to announce to the world that the commercials are untrue.

Who is Emily Ackerberg?

My goodness. Emily is a a grad of MHS, she is really a nice girl whom I do not know all that well. She just made some comments that I took way to far. I apologize to Emily and the White Lake Talks community.

Okay, this is absolutely ridiculous. Let me start out by saying that I'm an eighteen year old girl whose facebook activity shouldn't be of interest to ANY of you. None of you know anything about me, my personality, or my humor. I'm not stupid or ignorant, and though I probably am still naive, I am fully aware of the beauty that lies in Michigan and what it has to offer. There was nothing about my comment that was meant to degrade or take away from that. Certainly I'm not a fan of Michigan winters, but I've enjoyed living here aside from that. I understand that those commercials are meant to focus on the most beautiful and alluring parts of this state, which will help to draw people here. Anyone would understand that. Not everyone LOVES the place they live EVERY single day. On a rainy, cold, winter-melting type of day, I would've preferred to be somewhere warmer, or to fast forward to a time where Michigan DOES look like those commercials. Where I was at that moment, it didn't, and I know every single one of you can subscribe to that.
So, have I made myself clear? Does everyone understand now that I'm not "holding Michigan and our entire country back"? I am not in any way, shape, or form against the commercials or what they're attempting to do.
For those of you who find Tim's need to blow this comment up amusing, then I'm sorry you got the wrong impression of me and my opinions. As for those of you who took the time to defend me or attempt to understand where I'm coming from, I appreciate your approbation. I hope you have the sagacity to let this go.

I agree wit Emily's statements and I did take this out of hand. I too ask that everyone, including myself, leave the issue. I've set a prime example of how not to use blogging and took this topic way to far.

To clarify, I did this not as a rampage against Emily as it turned out to be. It was an illustration (a failed illustration) of a problem that her words fit. Please do not hold my comments on Emily against her as I am hopeful you will not nor would not have done as I have NO authority on the issue or to judge or make conclusions or even statements about Emily - whom I hold nothing against. Again, I am sorry I have put these negative ideas in your thoughts about a girl whom I realize I don't know well, nor most of the users here.

I could care less what Emily thinks. I thought the same things when I was young and naive. I live in Oregon now and 30 years ago, when I moved here,I thought it was the greatest thing going. Believe me, if you move out of state, after a period of time, you get homesick. I find myself telling Oregonians about the virtues of Michigan. They tell me that the fishing,in Oregon,is the best in the USA. If you drive 100 miles and stand elbow to elbow fishing for Steelhead! I lived on Lamos Rd. just off Scenic Dr. I walked 100 ft. to fish for multiple game fish. I remember the quiet after the first snowfall. A cool breeze blowing off Lake Michigan on a hot day! I don't care what she thinks. I know the truth!
