You came and then turned around and went back to Chicago? Whew, that's a lot of driving isn't it? Glad you made it!

OK...I know everyone is waiting to see if Jim Ed makes it to Michigan for the weekend...well Merry Christmas to all first off...I did get a wonderful plow jockey to go out and look at the drive late on Christmas eve...he made his best pass at it and then let me know he couldnt do it with his truck...but..he has a pal with a payloader who could get the job done on Friday. I thanked him for his efforts told him I will compensate him for those efforts..and he will call me early Friday to let me know they are on the job...so we can depart Chicago for Hart....if we make it...every ones invited Sat night!! yeeha!

Speaking of agriculture and the environment concerning the weather...it reminds me of a "weather journal" a great great aunt of mine kept, oh probably about a hundered years ago....ok, not that long ago...maybe 80 years ago. It was turned over to the Historical Society in Oceana or Mason Co. and they put it on line. It was amazing to read how the weather was back then and how my family lived. How they went to town and sold their goods....what they traveled in, and how company would come in the winter and they would stay up until the wee hours of the morning playing games or just talking and the guest would go home the next morning. There is a lot you can talk about concerning the weather.
Oh and I also enjoy the blizzards. I can wrap myself up like a cacoon. turn the heat up higher and watch movies or read until it all passes. No one to bother me, no place to go.....it is the only true thing I like about winter.
Good topic.

I think he means like a weather updater or the like on the page, although maybe i'm off on that.

Seems like a funny issue to have differences of opinion on, but I think you could make the argument that the weather is important every day. On a purely personal level, it changes my mood. Sometimes if I'm feeling a little down it makes me happy to have a nice miserable day (like a blizzard). It makes me feel like others might have to suffer along with me. And most people like a nice bright day.

Environmentally and agriculturally, though, the weather is hugely important. The climate is changing and the effects of that are everywhere, especially in the weather. A hundred years ago, when we were all a little closer to the food we ate and the farmers who grew it, we understood that every day - whether it was warm, dry, wet or col - played a role in what quality and quantity we were going to be fed. Farmers and those who are dependent on their own land for food are still aware of this. Usually I'm not. I'm too busy buying Chilean grapes in January and feeling proud that I have fresh fruit.

Ilene, it has been some time since I vistied the site, and they may have made some changes, but you can go to the MIGenWeb and they have a clickable state map with all the counties. Click in to the county which is either Oceana or Mason and somewhere on one of those counties you will find it. Her name was Agnus (Miller) Marcellus. Good Luck. And have fun. Put in some of your surnames and see what you can find.

June on our last trip up (Jan 2-4) I was thinkin alot about the old timers, and how they dealt with the winters....they were troopers... I am much more in-tune to the weather when we are in Michigan. We are on a county road that does not get gerat attention from the road commission. We need to make sure we have food, etc as our walk to anywhere would be 3-5 miles.
