It's always a good idea to speak out on a topic that is important to you as a citizen, address your grievances, etc., whether you consider yourself a Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, whatever. To be most effective it shouldn't start and end with a one time protest but should continue with letters, e-mails, phone calls to your representatives in Lansing or Washington. Get involved and keep after it, if you feel strongly about an issue. And vote, of course. And pray for our elected officials whether you agree with them or not.
That being said, I did participate here in North Texas in a peaceful demonstration the other day. (On the 15th there were over a dozen held in various communities here in the Metroplex.) My son invited me to come to Arlington (Tarrant Co.) with him to help keep an eye on my three-yr.old grandson. The tea event was held at a large park not too far from where they are building the new Cowboy's stadium. Over a thousand people were in attendance and they weren't all white and middle-class like me. As a bonus I got to hear Gov. Rick Perry speak. (Well, I missed some of his speech as I was on the playground with little Preston! ;) All in all it was a good showing, police were out there doing their job -- directing traffic and making sure everyone was safe.
Hi Jill. I agree with you on everything you said. I had been watching the coverage of the TEA party's on Fox News, and learned that the other major networks were not covering them because they thought the people were just dissing Obama. I didn't get that impression...like you, I saw that it was citizewns from all walks of life, all races, religious denominations and political party affiliations, who like me, are just fed up with all thgese trillions of dollars being put out their with no accountability. I mean, someone please...give me a million dollar bonus for mucking up my financial situation. I was also surprised to learn after the fact that we had about 75 citizens congregate in Montague who took part in a TEA party for our area. I hope we have more of these.....it is reported that by the time Obama's administration is done, he will be touted as the president who ended up with the biggest national debt in the history of our country. 3 x's more than any other President. This will have our grandkids and great grandkids digging out more than any other generation has had to do. I don't see that as fair. I know at a great financial cost our economy will stabelize for a bit....but it will come tumbling down big time...and I hope people are ready for that. But, being a Republican I can truly say that I am happy that God is in control.
