White Lake Talks

Whitehall and Montague

For weeks, since the article in the paper, I have been concerned with the idea of BP Alternative Energy operating wind turbines in White River Township. I would like some discussion about this. It is very important to keep BP out of the area, and the state of Michigan. BP has production agreements with a manufacturer in Iowa for their turbines (http://www.bp.com/bodycopyarticle.do?categoryId=7040&contentId=...). That means no new manufacturing business in Michigan. I also would not expect BP to hire to many Michiganders in such a venture either. They don't need to, they have their own people. Although I have nothing to show for who they would employee to manage their turbines, I throw a big red flag on the whole idea. Michigan has the resources, knowledge, and abilities to design, produce, construct, harvest, and manage our own wind farms.

I agree we have the resources, but I am wondering if Michigan is in a position where we could actually fund this and not contract it. I admit I am not a major follower of alternative energy, therefore I can't speculate as to weather or not I think Michigan can do this, or the amount of time and money it could take, but is a question I have.
