Hopefully you've heard by now that your Muskegon County winter came close to tying a record but didn't quite make it. Bill Steffen posts all those good snowfall numbers, along with other interesting weather tidbits, on his blog which is viewable thr…

Ilene, We are keeping the forum for discussions only, You can advertise your business on your page and in a blog posting so I'll paste it here so you can move it.
My husband and I live about five miles outside of Montague, in the woods, where we love it, and have lived in Montague for almost 17 years. We have two old loved dogs and one fiesty cat and are empty nesters. All the kids live out of town.

Husband is a retiree of GM and owns Fastech Race Cars. He builds and races dragsters. This tends to lend a lot of excitement to our summers. Great sport! He also does fabrication work for other racer's cars.

I am technically retired but own a small in home business, Michigan Country Soapworks. I make bath soaps and some speciallized soaps as well as herbal salves. All my products are available at Healthy Pantry in the Plumb's plaza and see them at; www.michigancountrysoapworks.com

Also work about two months of the spring and summer at Carlton Creek Greenhouse in Rothbury where I am in charge of the herbs we grow and sell. Of course my participation involves working with all of the annuals and perennials too.

We came here from the west Lansing area, having lived there for 10 years, and originally hail from the Flint area. This is a great place to live!

Hi Ilene...

Since you asked to be my friend, thought I'd send you a 'lil message to say "HI".

My name is Glenna and after reading bits of your blog, I find we have something in common. I also enjoy gardening. I used to do much more, but lost interest after going through a personal situation. But I have started to get back into gardening. It's on a much smaller scale now, but it's nice getting to know my plant friends once again.

Working in a greenhouse must be not only rewarding, but fun as well. I had thought of finding a job in that kind of environment after retiring. But my current part-time job has also been very rewarding. So for now I'll stick with my home gardens and reaquaint myself with all my plant friends.

Also thanks for the information regarding Obama's Whitehall office. I stopped by there today on my way home from Muskegon. I picked up some campaign information and will be back when the signs, t-shirts and bumper stickers come in this week.

Thank you for becoming a new friend and I hope we can get to know each other better in the coming months.

Take care!
Glenna

PS - I tried sending this through e-mail, but for some reason experienced some technical problems. So I posted my HI here for you.

This is Jabezz's Royal Journey. We call her Bez. She is a 5 year old Morgan who is as sweet as can be ( most days :) ) We also have a 13 year old bay Appoloosa named Breezy . We have had Bez about 2 1/2 years and Breezy not quite a year. I have always been a horse lover also, but these are my first horses of my own. Thankyou for the compliment on my baby. Lynn

Snow Breaking Any Records?

We have lived here 17 years and have never seen a winter like this one. My husband is from Custer, lived there until he was 12 years old and he says he remembers very snowy winters from childhood.

For all of you who were raised here, what are your memories about winter snow? Are we breaking any records?

World of Warcraft, etc.

Ok, so I am a 62 year old woman who likes to try new activites. A friend of mine introduced me to this massive online game a week ago. I am totally addicted! Course I have playing video games on my PS2 for years which learned from my grandkids so I guess the jump to WoW isn't much of a jump.

My soap business, Michigan Country Soapworks, has been a little slower than usual this holiday season, thanks to the economy, but it holds it's own and supports itself so I am happy with that.

My project a… Continue

Soaps and Herbs

I have been making soap for six years this month and have studied herbs and their medicinal uses for eight years. These activities evolved from working in North Muskegon for Willbrandt Farms where we grew the largest selection of herbs in West Michigan. Marcia and Doug Willbrandt sent me to Master Gardener school and taught me everything they knew about running a greenhouse, herbs, and horticulture.

I still work at a greenhouse in the spring and summers; Carlton Creek in Rothbury. The soap and… Continue

Summer Is Winding Down

After all the high temps we have had recently I am glad to see the cooler weather. My summer greenhouse job is over for the year which gives me time to work more in my own flower beds. Very theraputic for relieving stress...or causing it by seeing all the weeds that need to be pulled.

I mulched another large area recently with wood chips and it finally dawned on me how much more simple gardening is when beds are mulched. It's earth friendly because the mulch helps keep water from evaporating so… Continue

Things About Life That I Love

Nature, any part of it, is so awesome. Guess that is why I am a serious gardener and work at a greenhouse, ya think? Actually it's possible I have gone over the edge with gardening because it consumes so many hours of my summer days. Possibly this has become a compulsion to me...walking my yard and looking to see if all the plants are happy and what can be done to make them happier.

Nothing makes me happier than standing quietly in my yard and listening to sounds. It's amazing what you can hear… Continue
