I had all but forgotten about this until Manda posted a comment yesterday on my entry on composting.

So here's the update: I'm driving almost every day to work. This has a lot to do with the fact that I often have to drive to interviews for the Beacon and a little to do with a) me being tired in the morning, therefore close to being late, and b) those mornings when it was just too cold to ride (and I wasn't prepared to dig out my mittens and hat in September).

I began riding my bike to work last week and, besides the hills, I enjoyed the whole experience, including finding new trails (I talk about the whole week of riding on my blog here).

But my goal is to find some new way to be green every week, and that means I have to do something else this week. Enter: the world of composting and recycling.

I rode my bike to work today. It took me 12 minutes, exactly twice as long as it does by car, or truck in my case.

The first half of the journey was perfect, other than the cold. After a few quick pedals down Williams St. in Montague, I was able to coast down the hill and onto the causeway. I was riding along, thinking "what a great day. The air is clean. My bike is working fine (a miracle in itself). The sun is shining." And then I started going up hill. Wow.
